At Butterfly Stitches, we can do more than just provide you with patterns that can be used for quilting purposes. We can also set you up with instructions and quilting classes that will help you improve your quilting skills and become more experienced overall. Our founder Connie Ewbank is an expert when it comes to creating quilts and quilted patterns, and she can show you how to get started and how to get significantly better at quilting if you want.

There are myriad benefits that come along with learning how to quilt from Butterfly Stitches. For starters, you will be able to start creating your own quilts and quilted patterns when you learn more about how to do it. You will also get to enjoy the satisfaction of quilting in your free time. It can be a fun and relaxing way to spend a quiet afternoon. You can even go on to start your own quilting business if you so choose. The possibilities are endless when you receive instructions and quilting classes from Butterfly Stitches.

Lectures:

My Quilts (Trunk Show)      1-1 1/2 hours

I show you the quilts from my patterns and books. I talk about what they are, and how many of them are put together, and fun anecdotes about some of them.

Who Is That?              1 hour

I will show you 12 blocks each named for people from American History -- well, one is really from a political slogan -- and tell a little about who that person is and what part he/she has played in our history.  Blocks measure 15" and can be put together into a quilt, or the blocks used individually in a quilt.  The pattern is available for purchase.

Classes:

There are several class options that we offer through Butterfly Stitches. Connie can hold a trunk show for you and show you many of the quilts from her patterns and books. She can explain how they were put together and reveal fun anecdotes about each quilt. She can also teach groups how to create certain kinds of quilts and even work 1-on-1 with you if you are very serious about becoming a better quilter. The choice is yours, but no matter which option you go with, you’re guaranteed to learn a lot.

Disappearing Row Quilt

64" x 80" finished size

The blocks for each of the six rows start with simple common quilt blocks that are then cut up and re-assembled to make new blocks.

Cut the Cake

54" x 66" finished size

Use a package of layer cake fabrics to make this quick and easy quilt. Each quilt will be different according to the lights and darks in the layer cake you choose.

String Star

50" x 50" finished size

Use all of those odd scraps to stitch an old-fashioned string quilt. Fabrics are pieced on a muslin base, cut into diamonds, and then stitched together to form the star. Outside squares and triangles are pieced, so there are no Y seams.

Color Illusions

60" x 60"

Take a closer look.  All of the squares in this quilt are the same block.  The placement of the colors and values make them very different.  Have fun seeing what you can do with this block, and make a quilt using any or all of the results.

Cactus Basket

30" x 41"

The baskets in this quilt are filled with cactus made from diamond pieces.  This simple block teaches an easier way to do ‘Y’ seams.  The pieces are stitched on the machine using a scant quarter inch seam.  Blocks are set on point for a cute wall hanging or throw.

Into the Woods

48" x 52" finished size

Selected piecing of the strips make this block form a pattern of tessellating trees.  The trees can be seen right side up and upside down!  Blocks can be made of scraps, or single fabrics for a nice quilt.  Precise cutting and piecing make this one fit together well.

Rosebuds

12 blocks 52 1/2" x 60"

-OR-

20 blocks 69: x 89" before borders

Learn to use a Tri-Recs ruler to make elongated triangle leaves to surround these pieced rosebuds. Two sizes of nine patch blocks and floral sashing add charm to this quilt.

Bubbles

Finished size is 48" x 62" using a 7 1/2" template.

Learn to easily piece curves with this quilt.  You can change the size by using a different size template set, but the stitching is the same.  Put the blocks together into your own setting.

Surprise Package

This quilt can be made in four sizes:

Queen - 82"x100"

Full/Twin 60"x78"

Throw/Crib 42"x60"

Wall/Table 32"x32"

The patches in this quilt are also pieced to make the design seen when they are put together into a nine patch block.  The blocks are then set together to make this lovely quilt.
